During the four LiberArte events in the summer of 2019, held at the Las Dalias, I wanted to do something with my cushion collections in addition to my exhibited art. I drew nudes on the spot on a water-repellent fabric and had them made to cushions in my studio. These cushions are unique and will match beautifully with a modern or industrial interior. They are signed and therefore a collector's item.

The fabric of Green Leaves stands out for its brightness and softness. The brown, green and blue leaves are illustrations, but the background is a photo of a linen, making it look natural and soft as it is printed on velvet.

Ibiza Flamingos is a white cotton cushion with prints of flamingos and plants. Every year a large group of flamingos can be seen at the salt fields of Las Salinas.

Crazy Faces is a cushion with a collage of magazine pictures, made by Gert. Afterwards embroidery by hand.

Gert: "I was making moodboard collages for a new theme, where I wanted faces from fashion magazine with eyes and lips bigger or smaller than the original, like aliens. During the clipping, I also started using colored paper with patterns and I painted the collages afterwards. Finally, these collages came out as little artworks for on the wall. I will sell these one-piece-only collages, and for my 3rd collection I made a serie of cushions with the same image".

Gert: "I wanted to do something with different fabrics in unexpected combinations. For my 2020 collection I bought a new size filling: 40 cm x 60 cm. Beautiful on a large spacious sofa! For the cushion Mix Match Jeans I used four different fabrics for the front: a thin jeans cotton with embroidered flowers (which I called Flower Power Jeans), a woven wool/polyester fabric with images of crockery (Delft Blue) and a white cotton with images of shells, starfish and seahorses (Beach Day). For the back I used a pair of heavy dark blue denim (which I called Dark Jeans), which I washed first, so that it no longer gives off in the wash! I also made of each fabric square cushions, so that they combine well again. 

I found the fabric of the Flower Power Jeans cushion in Antwerp and bought it embroidered. Unique, because I only made two!"

Gert: "On the catwalks, pop video clips and in the street scene I saw more and more ripped jeans, patchwork, jeans with applications and patches. I visited the San Jordi flea market in Ibiza where I bought second-hand jeans. I cut them, took the pockets off and made them into patchwork cushions". 

The Patchwork Jeans cushion is handmade, one-piece-only. Also check the back, which is very different, so you can use both sides. A collector's item!

Gert: "On the streets and on the Fashionweek catwalks I more and more saw old, teared and patchwork jeans with applications. I went some Saturdays to the San Jordi Ibiza flea market where I bought old second hand jeans. I cut the pants, teared off the pockets, made them into patchwork fabrics. Some of these cushions are handmade and one-piece-only. But I also scanned them or photographed them and printed these photo's om cotton and added patches".

Gert: "In 2019, the film "At Eternity´s Gate" was released about the last years of Vincent van Gogh's life. I had long wanted to make cushions inspired by Vincent's paintings and when I visited Antwerp I found two beautiful fabrics with blossom print.

The fabric of the cushion Vincent Blossoms is a soft velvet with blossoms reminiscent of his painting "Almond Blossom" from 1890.

Gert: "In 2019, the film "At Eternity´s Gate" was released about the last years of Vincent van Gogh's life. I had long wanted to make cushions inspired by Vincent's paintings and when I visited Antwerp I found two beautiful fabrics with blossom print.

The fabric of the Spring Blossom TWO cushion is a beautiful fine cotton with blossoms which remembered me of the Japanese paintings of cherry blossoms.

Giorgio is a cushion from the theme DOTS, STRIPES & BLOCKS inspired by pointillism, Escher and the spot paintings by Damien Hirst. The black and white and gray woven stripes and diamond motifs can also be combined with each other. Nice in a cool interior with, for example, anthracite walls.

Jungle Stripes & Velvet is a cushion from the theme DOTS, STRIPES & BLOCKS inspired by pointillism, Escher and the spot paintings by Damien Hirst. This fabric is made by the same manufacturer and in the same color scheme as the fabric from Leaves & Stripes and therefore easy to combine with that leaf motif.

During the fashion week shows where the Autumn Winter 19/20 collections were shown, I saw beautiful warm autumn colors combined, sometimes with a surprising detail or accessory in fluorescent pink or bright lime. The colors ochre yellow and ochre green and rusty brown were most striking to me and reminded me of furniture fabrics from the 50s.

I combined four of these colors with the Fifties Mix Match cushion.

During the fashion week shows where the Autumn Winter 19/20 collections were shown, I saw many woven fabrics beautiful sand colors, sometimes combined with graffiti prints. It remembered me of nomads and the Alaska natives, but also of an urban theme and the movie Mad Max. I named the collection Nomads.

During the fashion week shows where the Autumn Winter 19/20 collections were shown, I saw many woven fabrics in beautiful sand colors, sometimes combined with graffiti prints.
