Ibiza style cushion from the theme JEANS inspired by vintage style denim and the hippy markets of Ibiza.

Gert: "On the catwalks, pop video clips and in the street scene I saw more and more ripped jeans, patchwork, jeans with applications and patches. I visited the San Jordi flea market in Ibiza where I bought second-hand jeans. I cut them, took the pockets off and made them into patchwork cushions". 

The Patchwork Jeans cushion is handmade, one-piece-only. Also check the back, which is very different, so you can use both sides. A collector's item!

At the end of 2019 Gertjan Holleman started with a new technique.

Gert: "On life-size paper (1.85 meters high) I drew nudes, men and women, with an ink pen (for example Rotring) in small circles. For hours I circled my pen on the paper, revealing the curves, hollows, shadows and spots of light."

During the four LiberArte events in the summer of 2019, held at the Las Dalias, I wanted to do something with my cushion collections in addition to my exhibited art. I drew nudes on the spot on a water-repellent fabric and had them made to cushions in my studio. These cushions are unique and will match beautifully with a modern or industrial interior. They are signed and therefore a collector's item.

Gert: "After the UN Climate Change Conference in New York, I wanted fabrics with all the beauty of nature. Tree leaves, plants, cacti, flowers and birds, but also wild animals. I found the right fabrics in Antwerp and tried to mix them."

I found the right fabrics in Antwerp and tried to mix them. I found a special fabric with a Tiger and an Elephant, ready-made as a kind of collage of animal prints, stripes and flowers. I only made one piece, so these cushions are unique".

Crazy Faces is a cushion with a collage of magazine pictures, made by Gert. Afterwards embroidery by hand.

Gert: "I was making moodboard collages for a new theme, where I wanted faces from fashion magazine with eyes and lips bigger or smaller than the original, like aliens. During the clipping, I also started using colored paper with patterns and I painted the collages afterwards. Finally, these collages came out as little artworks for on the wall. I will sell these one-piece-only collages, and for my 3rd collection I made a serie of cushions with the same image".

Gert: "I wanted to do something with different fabrics in unexpected combinations. For my 2020 collection I bought a new size filling: 40 cm x 60 cm. Beautiful on a large spacious sofa! For the cushion Mix Match Jeans I used four different fabrics for the front: a thin jeans cotton with embroidered flowers (which I called Flower Power Jeans), a woven wool/polyester fabric with images of crockery (Delft Blue) and a white cotton with images of shells, starfish and seahorses (Beach Day). For the back I used a pair of heavy dark blue denim (which I called Dark Jeans), which I washed first, so that it no longer gives off in the wash! I also made of each fabric square cushions, so that they combine well again.
